Escape

At a VC firm, shareholders listen to presentations from prospective opportunities, then weigh their desire to participate or not. At this VC firm in Mountain View, the investors wanted a sense of escape after a long presentation. Somewhere to go that is equal parts serious and fun, but completely another world.
The client requested a futuristic space to relax and pour a cocktail. We designed a hidden door behind a wood veneer panel, operated by gently pushing a false trophy on the shelf. When you enter, you find yourself in a seamless white fiberglass shell, flowing smoothly around you. The wall gently slopes down to a bench, fully integrated with the fiberglass. Above is a color changing LED light hidden in an opening in the shell.
Working with a custom fiberglass shop, the 3d model was custom CNC milled from foam 4'x4' blocks, which were then used as formwork for the fiberglass shell. Once the form is complete, the fabricator just needed to build in extra supports and flanges for attachment to the building into the hidden backside of the shell. The entire room was delivered in three pieces, and finished in place to be completely seamless.
