Connection

The site is located on the main thorough fare connecting Lake Merritt to downtown Oakland. The design intent was to try and extend the park-like atmosphere from the Lake, a bit further towards downtown. Being a commercial property, ease of maintenance and durability were major concerns.
The City's pilot parklet program ended in 2016, with this project being one of the last installed. The installation was considered a success by the city, inspiring them to begin a new parklet program using the success of this installation (and others) as a guide for the future.
